I love this

* * * * * by • 9th January 2009

“This is fab tea - refreshing, clean, yet spicy and warming. Perfect for the current cold snap or just as something different. Really good alongside a nice curry as well!”

* * * * * by Natalie • 17th January 2012

“A beautiful chai tea, I put off buying this thinking the spice of the chilli would ruin the flavour but all it does is add more! Absolutely love it, particularly for winter nights :)”

Lush but not hot

* * * * * by Rosie • 20th November 2013

“I really love this tea and wish you'd do it in bigger packs - 15 temples goes nowhere!! However, I can't really get a chilli kick - just an overall warmth. Good chai though.”

Chilli Chai

“Best tea ever! Considering I don’t actually like tea, this is an amazing drink, warm, spicy and with a little kick of chilli. I drink it black and it truly is worth the price”

* * * * * by • 23rd February 2009

“I bought this tea at a food market in London, when i got home i tried it and from then on have been addicted. The great thing about this tea is that all the flavours minngle in your mouth and then suddenly you get this wack of chilli, it is amazing! I would definatley recommend it to someone with a chilli obsession or in need for an adventurous tea !”

My favourite

“I love these guys this tea is so spot on it could for me have a little more kick of chilli to it though, that is the only criticism of mine. Its the only chai tea I like and buy regularly.”

chilli tea

“just purchased some of this at the good food show.
wow very, very unusual.
I tried without milk, not bad.
preferred with milk. really warming. hits all the right spots.
I would really recommend this to anyone who fancies a change.”

Mmmm... warming

* * * * * by Liz • 20th April 2012

“Feeling a lot better on a bad day after a lovely cup of chilli chai - more warming than a normal tea and after reading up on the anti-inflammatory properties of chilli, cinnamon and ginger might even help my poor ribs to mend faster!

Wish I'd put a whole pack in with my last order instead of a teapiglet.”

Chillie & Orange, somebody sure likes to mix it up.

* * * * * by • 24th November 2006

“I'm a real fan of chillies but have a dislike of 'fruit' teas so only gave this a try as the orange seemed to be the minor player in this combo.
Turned out to be my current favourate tea for work - an excellent sipping tea with a fantastic mild after taste.”

Just in time

“PG Tips step away from the podium, Chilli Chai is the new tea of choice in this house!

I've always loved a cold chilli chai latte where ever I've managed to find one, but to actually enjoy it cold, or hot, or lukewarm, with or without sugar...and best of all, from natural ingredients (not those nasty syrups they use in cafes). And at my own home! How wicked is that!

It's mild spiciness and ka-boom of flavour (especially with a hint of sugar and milk added) not only made me very happy, but also cleared my stuffy nose before I even reached the bottom of the cup!

Lovely stuff, I totally recommend it!”

Good but not spicy

* * * * * by Aerin • 9th May 2014

“This reminds me a lot scent-wise of some sweets I had at an Indian friend's several years ago. It's a really lovely chai, slightly different from anything I've tried before. Unfortunately, I feel like "chilli" might be a bit of a misnomer - I don't taste any heat at all, and I don't think I have an especially high tolerance!

I still really like it and wish you'd make it in bigger packs!”

Fantastic chilli tea

* * * * * by • 9th February 2007

“Big fan of chillis, not so much of flavoured teas. In my experience teas often smell great, and taste quite different. This chilli tea is an exception to that particular rule, it both smells and tastes fantastic!

I drink it raw, as suggested, sand milk or sugar - something you can do with very few teas. I'll be buying much more of this!”

Felt the Spice!

* * * * * by Danielle Bennett • 15th May 2014

“Love this tea; one of my favourites having bought a range of the sample tea boxes. I love my spicy food and I feel the 'kick' in the back of my throat with this tea.

Nice little afternoon treat - Highly recommend!”

* * * * * by • 17th February 2010

“This is a great tea when you've come in from a long snowy walk or a freezing afternoon birdwatching and biking. It really warms you up!”

My favorite Chai!

* * * * * by Michaela Adams • 9th August 2012

“I always drink Chai tea with milk & this one is by far my favorite. Lovely, warm flavor which wasn't as spicy as I expected (with the Chilli) but gorgeous nonetheless.”

Great for warming up when it's 'chilli' outside

* * * * * by Katie Molloy • 6th December 2014

“Thought I'd give this tea a try as I love the Chai and the Chilli Chai certainly didn't disappoint. All the warmth and comfort of the Chai spices with a little more oomph. Fabulous for warming you up on a cold winters evening.”

Chilli Tea

“I tried this tea a few months ago in a coffee shop and loved it so much I looked up the website for more delicious tastes. Fruit teas have never appealed to me - this now is the exception. Delicious”

Delicious, I might be addicted

* * * * * by Joanna Joss • 16th November 2012

“I am on my third cup of this one today, and I just cannot get enough. It's warm without being overpowering, but also has this awesome smokey tangy flavour. If you like something a bit different this is definitely one to try!”

Chillie Chai

“After reading the reviews I purchased some of this at Olive and bean in Newcastle. I am glad I did. Absolutely delicious and truly yummy. I didn't initially like the thought of chillie tea but this is so full bodied and warming. Thanks Teapigs!”

Scrummy - Leave to brew for ages!!!

* * * * * by • 18th September 2010

“The first time I had this tea i did not leave it to brew, and I was dissapointed by the bland flavour.

But the next time I left it to brew for about 20 minutes, and the depth of flavour is wonderful. The tea has a rich, smokey and powerful flavour.

Compared to the regular chai, this is much nicer.

The only downside is that it could be much more spicey, but this tea is spicey, rich and flavoursome I would recomend it to anyone!”

Great way to unwind

* * * * * by • 14th April 2008

“I'm currently enjoying my first cup of the aforementioned brew, and it's a delight. Warming, without being too overpowering.

* * * * * by • 7th December 2010

“The most exiting and delicious tea I have had in ages. Love it! Delicious with or without milk. Both warming and refreshing. Making it in a pot and leaving it to brew improves the flavour. YUM!”

“Just having my first cup of this and it's simply wonderful. The flavours are very delicately balanced - I may have to have another one!”

It's all about the cardamom

* * * * * by • 26th January 2011

“Chai is a personal affair. What I've discovered is that my preferred cup comes from the purses containing two cardamom pods. They make a big difference in taste; you won't even have to let the tea brew longer if you use a small cup. Some bags contain two, one, or no carddamom pods - though it appears that each contain at least seeds. Drop a pod or two in, if necessary. Add cream and sugar. And add a little bit of crystalized ginger if you like more, like I do. Now you've got yourself an authentic tasting home brew. :Delicious!”

Chilli chai

“Brilliant. boil it in a saucepan in alternative milk, I use rice/coconut milk,this is the best chis I have even tried. Those who says its not strong enough are obviously not making it properly.”

Chilli Tea - Outstanding

* * * * * by • 17th June 2008

“After reading the reviews prior to my purchase of this product I kind of had a feeling it was going to good and I was not disappointed. Infact this product far exceeded my expectation of good it was great.

The product had a pleasent orangey aroma prior to adding water but that disappeared in the brewing proccess to leave a crisp fresh smelling cuppa that cleared my blocked nose in a moment.

Visually I found the colour a little pale but I presume this depends on the type of milk you put in it( or if you even use any at all).I think I expected it to be a deeper more intense colour because of chillis being deep red.

And most importantly the taste; I was blown away I loved the chilli undertones that lingered in the roof of my mouth - pure bliss and
If you've never tried this flavour before then I would recommend that you give it a try you may be suprised.”

* * * * * by • 4th March 2011

“Enough said. Seriously though its you fav chai tea with a lovely refreshing tang at the end. Im very sensitive to spicy things if thats what you are worried about, but its not spicy at all. The chilli just adds an additional, very nice taste :)”

Spicy and warming

* * * * * by Alex • 1st May 2013

“I love regular chai tea, but thought I'd give this a try. To start with it just tasted like a good cup of chai, but gradually the heat of the chilli kicks in. Totally delicious!”

* * * * * by Cat Stratton • 21st October 2016

“I was anxious at trying this because I do order a korma when I go to an Indian Restaurant. But wow, this is such a lovely tea and I even forgot to take the teabag out so I am saying this drinking a very stewed brew!

It has a minor kick which is going to be lovely as we go through the winter months.”

* * * * * by • 18th November 2008

“This is divine - I didn't really know what to expect, even after reading the reviews, but is a beautiful cup of tea, with wonderfully warming aromas and then a subtle taste of exotics over the tea, leaving a warming feel in your mouth throat and tummy. Am going through it at an alarming rate so have asked for lots and lots for Christmas. Top notch!”

* * * * * by • 24th March 2011

“It took me a while to work up the courage to try the chili chai tea in my teapiglets order (I was a coward!), but I found it suprisingly delightful. Although others have suggested mixing it with milk and sugar/honey, I find that drinking it raw is the way I like it best. However, as someone else said, it's a personal affair. Its a delicously surprisingly warm drink with a bit of a kick to it at the end - but not enough of one that it puts you off. Best sipped during one of those cold nights where you feel like wrapping up in a duvet and reading a book, far as I'm concerned! I've just ordered one of the 15 teabag teapig versions, but am already considering getting another!

Another lovely tea, teapigs!”

Most disappointing

Very little "kick"and it reminded me of weak mulled wine at Christmas time.”

Chilli chai the best

“I just love chilli chai tea I have it for breakfast and for lunch can't get enough of it. Instead of the frothy milk I add a quarter teaspoon of honey . I've have tried other makes of chilli chai but none of them comes up to the standard of the teapigs temples. Try it you won't be disappointed.”

“Perfect breakfast tea. The orange and chili just add a little zing. It's also great mid afternoon tea time when energy is flagging. Love it with splenda and a dash of milk.”

My absolute fave!

* * * * * by Rachel • 24th October 2017

“Absolutely love this tea. Nice and spicy after 5 mins brew, but not too pokey. Please make it available in the big packs!!!”

Love it!!!

* * * * * by • 18th December 2008

“I love the normal chai tea, and I mix together loose chai (4packs) and chilli (1 pack) teas for a wonderful breakfast tea, but this is different again, very "clovey". It is absolutely gorgeous and makes me feel really warm and cosy. It has been great while I have had one of these colds which are doing the rounds - really makes me feel better! DO TRY IT! I drink mine black, don't like milk in my chai. I've also trated myself to one of the Eva Solo pots for my breakfast mix, and it's a fantastic teapot - looks good, too.”

Can not face winter without this!

* * * * * by Kathleen Miller-King • 11th September 2013

“First tried this at the tea pigs stall at the West Dean Chilli Fiesta a few years ago & I have been hooked ever since. I'm pretty picky about Chai tea- I want it to be spicy but with a clean, crisp taste too. While there could be a touch more chilli for my taste, I appreciate that not everyone likes things as hot as I do. Give it a try & let it warm you nicely!”

Fantastic but boxes are too small!!!

* * * * * by ali • 22nd March 2018

“Brilliant,gorgeous tea - it has replaced my favourite Teapigs normal Chai but please please please can we have bigger boxes? Thanks in hopeful anticipation :)”

I love this

* * * * * by Alice Cheung • 29th June 2018

“I can't enough of this. It is so much better than what the other brands offer. The only thing I'd want is a larger box :(”

Lovely but need to turn up the fire

* * * * - by Jian • 21st March 2012

“This is one of my favourites if I make it black. I tried it with milk and sugar, but I found that the flavour wasn't strong enough to stand up against the milk.

Even black, I can't taste the chili, but it leaves a lovely warm residual feeling in the mouth after you swallow it. I think it could do with a touch more of chili, since that's what we're expecting when we buy it! Keep up the good work teapigs!”

Chilli Chai + Creme Caramel

* * * * - by • 3rd February 2010

“Must tell you about my latest discovery - Chilli Chai AND Creme Caramel combined ! Yes, I like strong tastes and thought I would try these two favourite flavours and - WOW ! Try it, you won't be disappointed !”

Average, but worth a try

* * * * - by • 31st December 2009

“I was looking for fine teas and stumbled across TeaPigs. So I placed my first order online - Chili Chai. I was expecting big bold flavours and something resembling authentic Indian Chai but was left disappointed. I have brought Chili Chai from other tea brands and this was no different in taste. The chili "Kick" that is mentioned throughout the reviews of this product didn't come through for me.
On a plus note the packaging and the tea bags are brilliantly made and I will be buying other teas from teapigs for sure.”

Chilli Chai - persevere with it

* * * * - by • 14th April 2010

“My favourite is the Chai tea from teapigs as it has a real depth to it if allowed to infuse, the chilli chai is a bit of a disappointment as it deosn't deliver the big flavour for me, I am growing to love it though, I like the addition of some chilli to warm me up. I'd say to anyone that initially thinks it is a bit 'weak' try the chai first then learn to love the chilli chai for its difference.
If any of this makes sense I hope it is helpful!
Love the teas

Could pack more of a punch

* * * * - by Steff • 2nd August 2015

“This is a really nice, somewhat mild, chai in flavour. I did expect significantly more kick from the chillies though, so for me it's a bit of a dud.
Ended up brewing the remaining bags of this by adding extra chilli flakes, which I strained out before serving.”

A real winner

* * * * - by Keith Channing • 30th April 2013

“I'm not really a tea lover and don't expect to enjoy black tea based infusions. However, I really seriously enjoyed your chai (straight, no milk or sugar) and the extra kick of chilli makes this a real winner for me.”

Masala Tea

* * * * - by • 24th June 2011

“This is exactly what they serve in India and Nepal as Chiya or Chai, (masala tea). Tastes of cloves more than chili, and is a very odd taste, but quite palatable. With milk and sugar is how it should be drunk properly! Think sweet curry smell...”

“This was a tasty cup of chai!

It was nice and spicy but could have done with a little more chilli as there wasn't much kick.”

Chilli tea

“A classy version and I will be takig this to drink on the Isle of Skye this coming Easter as it is so sweet and warming and will keep out any residual chills!”

a bit disappointing

* * * * - by margery nzerem • 23rd November 2011

“Not as nice as the ordinary chai - there was a rather bitter undertaste, and I couldn't taste the chili. I'd drink it if were given it to me, but I won't be buying any.”

Nice Chai, but not extra spicy

* * * - - by Holly • 8th January 2014

“This is a nice chai tea, but tastes like the regular chai to me...I don't taste any extra heat/spicyness.”

Tasty but mild

* * * - - by Des • 19th January 2014

“I have similar thoughts to the other reviews, I'm not a massive chilli/hot fan but, disappointingly, there is no kick at all. It's a decent blend but does mostly taste of mulled wine (without the wine flavouring) and that's not what I wanted in a 'chilli' tea.”

follow up review...more tea-supping)

* * * - - by Gus • 9th June 2012

“Having been initially not overly enamoured by this tea I felt I needed to try it the other way (ie with a tiny splash of milk) & that has certainly made all the difference to my tastebuds & perception of this tea.
I added milk (a drop) & some vanilla sugar which resulted in a far more even brew, this has made it far more enjoyable.
whereas previously I wouldn't have had another box of chili chai, the flavour has fused together (that watery taste negated by milk) ...after long steeping & the teapig still in the mug whilst I drank & enjoyed to the last drop!

if at first you don't succeed, try (brew) another way, never rang truer!”

* * * - - by • 8th January 2009

“Not a black tea drinker not a smart choice! I would love it if a green tea had this blend of spices added, it would be amazing! If you like black tea you'll love it.”

“This is a really really nice chai tea but not very spicy!”

Don't expect a fiery kick / afterburn

* * - - - by Gus Murdoch • 8th June 2012

“Another layered flavour tea whereby if you need strong leave the bag in for in excess of 7 minutes.. (Imho)

Comes up strong on the clover & cardamom, which if you wish for the "warmth" after swallowing is best drunk hot rather than cool, at which point the flavour appeared to diminish.
As a non sugar tea drinker I found I actually needed a 5ml spoon of sugar to make the taste more even throughout, (prior to that it was not working so well for me, the vanilla sugar seems to give it more body, my tastebuds at least!

best brewed in a heavily insulated teapot & left to steep, based on another review I drank mine black lest the flavour be crowded out, but will try with milk next time round.”

Call the fire brigade...

Packs a Punch

* * - - - by • 11th September 2010

“I tried this tea one day while I was feeling adventurous and luckily I had only purchased a sample. The chilli in this was way too overpowering for my taste. I prefer my tea sweet and this just wasn't for me. Sorry Teapigs.”

Very Weak, Big letdown

* - - - - by Dean Harding • 17th March 2015

“I received this as part of a selection of teapigs teas, while this Tea certainly smelt nice it barely had any taste to it, it was like hot water with a slight essence of chai flavors, nothing like the Tea I experienced in India, I hope the other flavors do a lot better.”

“I was looking forward to this tea but was very disappointed.
It tasted like Mulled Wine without the alcohol.
Not enough chilli taste for me.”
